چکیده

We present a convergent asymptotic formula for the zeros of the Hermite functions as λ → ∞. It is based on an integral formula due to the authors for the derivative of such a zero with respect to λ. We compare our result with those for zeros of Hermite polynomials given by P. E. Ricci.

Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Bending of Straight Beams Using hp-Spectral Approximations

Displacement finite element models of various beam theories have been developed using traditional finite element interpolations (i.e., Hermite cubic or equi-spaced Lagrange functions). Various finite element models of beams differ from each other in the choice of the interpolation functions used for the transverse deflection w, total rotation φ and/or shear strain γxz, or in the integral form u...

On polynomials related with Hermite - - Pade approximations to the exponential function

We investigate the polynomials P n ; Q m and R s , having degrees n; m and s respectively, with P n monic, that solve the approximation problem E nms (x) := P n (x)e ?2x + Q m (x)e ?x + R s (x) = O(x n+m+s+2) as x ! 0: We give a connection between the coeecients of each of the polynomials P n ; Q m and R s and certain hypergeometric functions, which leads to a simple expression for Q m in the c...

Asymptotic analysis of the Hermite polynomials from their differential-difference equation

We analyze the Hermite polynomials Hn(x) and their zeros asymptotically, as n → ∞. We obtain asymptotic approximations from the differential-difference equation which they satisfy, using the ray method. We give numerical examples showing the accuracy of our formulas.

Inequalities and monotonicity properties for zeros of Hermite functions

We study the variation of the zeros of the Hermite function Hλ(t) with respect to the positive real variable λ. We show that, for each nonnegative integer n, Hλ(t) has exactly n + 1 real zeros when n < λ ≤ n + 1 and that each zero increases from −∞ to ∞ as λ increases. We establish a formula for the derivative of a zero with respect to the parameter λ; this derivative is a completely monotonic ...
